Osaka Prefecture University and KDDI Research, Inc. (hereafter referred to as “KDDI Research”), with support from Nippon Kaiko Co., Ltd., have developed for the first time in Japan (Keyword) an aquatic drone, which can be remotely controlled with a smartphone connected to a mobile network and is equipped with a long-lasting hydrogen fuel cell, with the aim of improving the efficiency of fishing through robotics. In November 2020, demonstration tests toward practical application started in Nanao Bay, Ishikawa Prefecture to assess the remote operability of an aquatic drone connected to the 4G LTE network and to assess / verify the safety, operability, and performance of an aquatic drone equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell.
