The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology（MEXT）, Japan annually commends the citizens or groups for their outstanding achievements in education, research, or their related matters.
The Commendation for Science and Technology consists of four prizes including Science and Technology Prize, Young Scientist Prize, Prize for Creativity, and Prize to School for Nurturing Creativity.
Two OPU faculty members have been awarded the 2012 commendations. The recipients are as follows:
