Youth Delegation of “SAKAI ASEAN Week Science and Technology Student Exchange Program” Visited OPU

LastUpDate: January 10, 2019

The SAKAI ASEAN Week Executive Committee launched the SAKAI ASEAN Week Science and Technology Student Exchange Program in 2014 and they invite university students in the field of science and technology from representative universities Cambodia, Brunei, Malaysia, and Singapore. Each university sends two students to Sakai and Osaka Prefecture University welcomes them on campus to offer the opportunity of laboratory exchange. One of the goals of the program is to encourage them to be enrolled in graduate school at OPU in the future.

In 2018, six students from Brunei, Cambodia, and Malaysia in the first phase (October 12 to 19) and two students from Singapore in the second phase (December 11 to 18) visited OPU.

Each of the visiting students stayed and studied in the laboratories depending on their research field in the Graduate School of Engineering, the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences, the Graduate School of Science, and the Graduate School of Humanities and Sustainable System Sciences. Each student visited their own laboratory and participates in laboratory exchanges such as presentations and discussions to deepen their understanding of the field.

Cambodia Royal University of Phnom Penh: RUPP
Brunei Universiti Teknologi Brunei: UTB
Malaysia Universiti Teknologi Malaysia: UTM
Singapore National University of Singapore: NUS

Although it was a short program, the visiting students have enjoyed their laboratory experience. For the OPU students, it was a really good opportunity to interact with outstanding foreign students from Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore. The program was meaningful for both OPU students and visitors.

We hope that this program will encourage the visiting students to come back again to OPU to pursue their research activities in the near future.
