The Foreign Minister of Nepal to Visit Research and Development Center for the Plant Factory

Honorable Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, visited our Plant Factory Center (PFC) on November 21, 2018.

H. E. Ms Prativa Rana, Nepal Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan, Mr. Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, Division Chief, Division of Northeast Asia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, joined Minister and his spouse. H. E. Mr. Masamichi Saigo Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Nepal, Mr. Osamu Kamiyama, Director General for Kinki Regional Agricultural Administration, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and others also joined.

Mr. Kamiyama kindly explained about greenhouse horticulture and plant factory in Japan. Prof. Minoru Ishii, Executive Director (Education and Research) of OPU welcomed the guests with international students from Nepal.

Prof. Noboru Masuda, Director for R&D Center of the plant factory then introduced the latest technologies of PFC as well as the educational programs for students and adults in details. They had an active discussion on not only the technologies and research activities, but also the possible issues and challenges for the actual commercialization and management.

Their discussion continued when they saw the Japanese radish currently being grown and the number of aquaponics and universal design worktables installed in the research facilities in bld. C20 and C21. They had a taste of pesticide-free lettuce produced in the actual factory in bld. C22 and were impressed with the quality control.

As the photo of two national flags next to each other symbolize, their visit highlighted the friendship between the guests and hosts.
