Opening Ceremony of New International House (I-wing Nakamozu) Held

The opening ceremony of the International House “I-wing Nakamozu” was held on Friday, February 20, 2015, with attendance of approximately 100 distinguished guests and parties concerned.

The ceremony began with the organizer’s address by President Taketoshi Okuno of Osaka Prefecture University (OPU). Congratulatory messages by representatives of distinguished guests followed, offered by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture (read by Ms. Keiko Oe, Director General, Department of Civic and Cultural Affairs) and Mayor Osami Takeyama of Sakai City. Then the ribbon-cutting ceremony took place with participation from Professor Nobuhiro Sugimura, Vice President in charge of International Affairs at OPU; Mr. Kazunori Kihisa from the Board of Directors of OPU International Students Supporters Association; and Mr. Emmanuel Ayedoun as the representative of OPU International Students Association. In recognition of those who made donations in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the founding of OPU and offered generous cooperation for establishment of the International House, a memorial nameplate was unveiled on this occasion. Representatives of the donors received a big applause.

The International House “I-wing Nakamozu” is a facility for international exchange, featuring three areas: the Dormitory (lodge area where international and Japanese students live together), the Global Commons (exchange area for implementing various international programs), and the International Office (support area providing multifaceted assistance for international exchange). The International House begins operation on April 1, 2015.

After the ceremony, participants enjoyed a Dormitory tour. At the Global Commons, Professor Masahiro Terasako, Director of the Center for International Exchange, presented OPU’s initiatives on developing global human resources.

OPU is determined to continue its efforts for the promotion of international exchange, aiming at “the development of global human resources who will exercise leadership in both international society and local communities.”
