LastUpDate: December 22, 2014

Osaka Prefecture University invites many leading researchers and educators as Guest Professors throughout the year. Each invited professor spends approximately one month at OPU to conduct special lectures, seminars, and individual discussions with faculty and students. The Guest Professor Program aims to stimulate students’ intellectual growth, to provide firsthand access to the finest world-class research, and to build tighter relations between OPU and leading universities around the world.

Our ninth guest in 2014 is Prof. Gabriel Bergounioux from University of Orleans, director of Loire Linguistic Laboratory and deputy director of Loire Valley Humanities Research Center (MSH). Prof. Bergounioux is a University Professor of Exceptional Class and one of the best linguists in France. His research interests are in history of linguistics, phonology, sociolinguistics, and corpus linguistics.

During his stay from October 26 to November 9, he gave lectures and seminars, among others, on phonetics for the students of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as for the undergraduate students, together with many opportunities of discussion with them. Also he spoke as guest speaker of “Science Café” organized by Center for Women in Research of OPU.
