Special Guest Professor Program 2014:Dr.Tomio Petrosky (University of Texas at Austin)

Osaka Prefecture University invites many leading researchers and educators as Guest Professors throughout the year. Each invited professor spends approximately one month at OPU to conduct special lectures, seminars, and individual discussions with faculty and students. The Guest Professor Program aims to stimulate students’ intellectual growth, to provide firsthand access to the finest in world-class research, and to build tighter relations between OPU and leading universities around the world.

Our fifth guest in 2014 is Dr. Tomio Petrosky from, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, University of Texas at Austin in U.S.A. Dr. Petrosky is a renowned researcher in the field of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, and one of the great pioneers in the complex science system. During his stay from July 2 to August 1, he gave lectures and seminars, together with many opportunities of discussion with graduate students, at the Graduate School of Science, School of Science, and College of Life, Environment, and Advanced Sciences. Also, he joined the university’s international exchange event with a local elementary school(Shirasagi elementary school)as a special lecturer and talked about the importance of learning science to the 6th grade students.
